Governing regulations

It was on July 17, 1990, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) had designed a plan for the workplace managements about the dangers involved in the processing of highly hazardous goods, which paved the way for establishing OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.119 – Process Safety Management of Hazardous Chemicals.

Since then, OSHA, along with the approved states, has been working together to ensure industries meet the requirements of the process safety standard as per 29 CFR 1910.119. This course emphasize the importance of the approved state plan of California for the process safety management involving highly dangerous materials, as stipulated in the California Code of Regulations CCR Title 8 Section 5189.

Course Overview

Chemical hazards can be devastating and can lead to deaths and injuries if not controlled and managed properly. Workers involved in handling highly hazardous materials should take at most precautions and care to safeguard their life and health as any small slippage can lead to explosion, fire, severe injury or even large scale fatality and destructions due to release of toxic substance. The course has been made keeping in mind the safety of workers who are associated with handling chemicals and related items in their work places.

The course deals with the safety parameters proposed by the California standard for process safety management for a wide spectrum of industries. The standard provides guidelines to employers and employees about developing comprehensive process safety management program to reduce the occurrence of accidents due to chemical hazards or reduce its impact to protect lives and properties.
